Bovikalc Dry Anionic Mineral Boluses for dairy cattle is an oral mineral supplement to help reduce discomfort associated with drying off. This natural product creates a natural decrease in milk production at the end of the lactation cycle, resulting in less milk production and minimizing udder discomfort. Contains 2 types of calcium (calcium chloride and calcium sulfate), and ammonium chloride.

Once administered, the boluses dissolve in the rumen within 30 minutes. The minerals are absorbed into the intestines and the anionic salts modify the acid base balance, causing temporary reduction in the cow’s appetite and overall reduction in milk production. This results in less udder engorgement and prepares the udder for the next lactation. Helps improve cow welfare and has a positive impact on cow health.

Directions and Administration:

To be used in dairy cows at drying off.

Give 2 boluses at last milking or 8-12 hours before the last milking.

Do not administer more than 4 boluses per 24 hours.

Please discuss protocol with Herd Nutritionist and/or Herd Veterinarian before implementation.

  1. Place the bolus in the bolus applicator with the rounded end pointing outward.
  2. If right- handed, place yourself at the cow’s right side.
  3. Grab the cow’s upper jaw with your left hand. Keep the cow’s head at a natural position and a little towards yourself. Gently guide the loaded BOVIKALC applicator into the cow’s mouth.
  4. When you feel resistance, gently guide the applicator over the tongue. When the applicator is behind the tongue, squeeze the handle to release the bolus.
  5. Wait a moment for the cow to swallow and then remove the applicator.
